About Me
I'm Grace, and my ambition is to become a professional musician. I grew up in Suffolk, however, I am now based in Manchester, studying Trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Instruments
I play trumpet, cornet and piano (with trumpet being my first instrument). I am available to teach any of these instruments, plus keyboard, if a piano is not avaliable!
Starting out on Piano
I started playing the piano when I was 7 years old, at primary school. After falling in love with it, I took private lessons, and gradually completed graded exams. In November 2019, I passed Grade 8, the highest musical exam.
Work
Since September 2017, I have worked part time as an accompanist for two dance classes, run by the Co-op Juniors Theatre Company.
Cornet and Trumpet
At 9 years old, I started playing the cornet with Martlesham Brass, a local brass band with 4 training groups whom I progressed with (from the 'Beginner's' all the way to the 'Main Band'). After a year of learning, I decided to get private lessons on cornet, with which I took Grade's 1,3 and 6, before moving to trumpet to complete Grade's 7 and 8. My current teacher is a Royal Northern College of Music Graduate, Adrian Robinson.
My Big Achievements on Trumpet
In the Autumn Term of 2018, I succesfully passed Grade 8, with a Distinction! I am also proud to have been a trumpeter with the Suffolk Youth Orchestra for the past 3 years. It is brilliant to be able to play on stages such as the world renowned Snape Maltings Concert Hall, and the Apex in Bury St Edmunds. Also, I have been on a concert tour abroad each year, to places like Spain, Italy and Poland!
Solos
I still regularly play cornet, with Martlesham Brass and the East of England Co Op Band. I am a confident soloist and have played many solos.
Styles of Music
I have had experience playing in many different groups, settings and genres of music. In terms of groups, I have played in quartets, duos, trios, solos, big bands, jazz bands, classical orchestras, musical theatre pit bands, chamber groups. brass bands, and wind bands. I have also conducted groups, and led ensembles. In terms of settings, I have had experience playing outside, in concerts halls, indoor music venues, offstage trumpet playing,
Outside of Music
When I'm not playing music, I enjoy seeing musicals both at my local theatre and in the West End, with my favourite being Wicked! I am always amazed by the musicians in the pits, who play live every night, with clarity and precision! I'm certain that would be something I would love to do when I'm older! I also enjoy baking and going on holiday!
